This is Halloween...

I have a love for Halloween that almost equals my love for Christmas. (Only almost. Christmas still has my heart). The Nightmare Before Christmas, Hocus Pocus, Love, Actually, and Home Alone are all Christmas and Halloween themed and they all rank within my top ten favourite movies. I am OBSESSED with the holidays. For now, lets focus on my love for Halloween
Exhibit A

I channel my inner Martha Stewart and whip up treats for friends, co-workers, and the tiny humans that come a-knocking

Exhibit B

In addition to the yummy treats that are always made in abundance, I also spend countless hours decorating at home to make the tiny humans happy. I even decorate parts of the house that the tiny humans don't see...

Exhibit C

I spend ridiculous amounts of money each year to make sure that my pets are not seen in the same costume as last year (GASP), even though they are constantly biting, shaking, scratching, and clawing their way out of their costumes and end up wearing them for a total of ten minutes. (When I spend at least 20 trying to get them dressed)...

Stay tuned for adorable pictures of Krickit as a unicorn. A UNICORN!

Exhibit D

I LOVE dressing up in costumes. I get to dress up as a Naughty Nurse, Slutty Pumpkin (shameless HIMYM plug there...), or Sexy Schoolgirl and, as I tell myself,  no one can judge me because its Halloween. JUST KIDDING.  Everyone is judging. Which is why I would never in a million years wear any type of costume that begins with Slutty, Naughty, or Sexy...

No, my costumes tend to be more traditional. Crayola crayon.  Ladies from the 80's. Zombie.  The usual

Sometimes I think I actually am Martha Stewart and I whip up a costume on my own. The year I went as Katy Perry in her 'California Girls' video I glued a million and twelve sequins to a pair of shoes, handmade a tutu out of white tulle and spray painted it bright colours, bought the game Candyland with the sole intention of only using it to glue game pieces to my outfit, and then, to complete the look,  I glued candy all over the outfit. (Which people then ate off me all night long. GAG!) Another year I went as a voodoo doll with friends. Our costumes were a HIT. I don't know how we didn't win Best Costume...

Sometimes I come up with a costume idea at the very last minute and it ends up winning Halloween. Aca-believe it

And then. Oh, and then. Sometimes I dress up even when its not Halloween. All of the pictures below. NOT HALLOWEEN. I think I have a problem...

I also realized that I may have a problem when I was looking for pictures for this post and found that I have been a flapper no less than three times in the last 6 years

But the thing I love most about Halloween? Seeing all the tiny humans in their adorable costumes. Melts my heart. I mean seriously, baby spiders?! I die

Happy Halloween!

Take Me To Vegas...

Hey y'all! I had a completely different post planned for today but it got pushed to another day because I'm so excited I could burst. I'M GOING TO VEGAS IN THREE WEEKS! I'm just a little bit excited, can you tell?

As mentioned in Monday's post, I've been trying to convince my Mama to go to Vegas with me for weeks. When it comes to a vacation I don't ever need convincing - just tell me where and when and I'm there, so I never thought it would be so hard to convince someone to go to Vegas. Now, I know I'm supposed to be on a budget, and I've lamented a few times how not having a vacation planned until next Spring (Vegas for my future SIL's stagette) made me ridiculously sad. BUT I received an email from Total Rewards for free nights at my favourite hotel, The Flamingo and who could pass that up?. I know the only reason they have those offers is because they want you to come back to gamble away all your money, and obviously it worked on me. Pair free nights hotel with cheap cheap flights and there is just no saying no. The trip is my Mama Bear's Christmas present and I still can't believe how inexpensive it is for both of our flights. I've paid our combined total for flights alone (and still had to pay for hotel) many times. Have I mentioned this will be my 9th trip to Vegas? To say I love it is an understatement.

We only have 2 1/2 days there which means jamming a lot of things into a little amount of time. I can't wait to show my Mama all my favourite places and to get a good start on Christmas shopping at the outlet malls! Oh, and to spend my leftover $100 from my July Vegas winnings on the slots, trying to turn my $100 into $500 (or more!). Wish me luck!

Side note: Last night while updating my FB status - the first time in MONTHS - about how excited I am that I get to show my Mama around my 2nd favourite city (NYC is first, obvi) I clicked on my friend requests and was shocked to see some familiar faces from blogland being suggested as friends.  I feel slightly stalkerish that I now know everyone's last names. And a little creeped out that its so easy now to find someone. What's the deal with this? I'm glad I've always been easy to stalk by including my last name in my email - otherwise I'd be way more creeped out than I am. I mentioned it to my sister last night and as a blog reader (and future blogger, right Toni...) she had already seen it mentioned around the Twittersvere. I guess that's what I get for being too busy for social media the past couple days!

Happy Humpday!

Feeling nostalgic that my baby girl is going to be 6 months in a little over a week. I swear it was just yesterday that she fit into the palm of my hand and now she's mastered jumping onto the couch (a huge feat in her world)

On the right is the day I brought her home at 6 weeks old, and the left is from Saturday at a little over 5 months old

Watching Full House on Netflix. It is killing me that there are only 3 of the 8 seasons on there so far. A friend of mine just started watching too and we've been texting back and forth as we watch. Side note: there are so many goofs with the way the house is designed and yet it is still my 2nd 'famous' dream home (next to the Home Alone house of course)

Reading Insurgent by Veronica Roth. I read Divergent in just under 2 hours - between Minot to Bismarck - on the way to Texas, but just haven't been able to get into Insurgent. I have to get it done asap though so I can start (and finish!) Allegiant by Friday since its on my October goals

Eating Halloween candy. The sooner I get it out of my house the better! Is it Friday yet?!

Loving the gorgeous weather so far. If the snow could just hold off until after Halloween that would be great. Actually, if you're listening Mother Nature,  it would be great if you could hold off until December 23rd. Thanks so much!

Waiting for Halloween. Have I mentioned how much I love Halloween?!

Planning some fun activities and treats for our Halloween celebration at work on Friday. Pinterest has been my best friend lately

Celebrating Halloween, duh!

Wishing for a money tree to start growing in my backyard. A girl can dream, right? I'm also wishing that my Mama (Hi Mama!) will just go to Vegas with me already! I've literally been begging her for weeks to go with me in November. If y'all could help convince her I would puffy heart love you forever

Sending snail mail to my 'pen pals'. I've got four more days to get them in the mail for my October goals (are you noticing a pattern with how long I wait to do my monthly goals?...)

Wanting November 27th to get here asap. The sooner I get my braces on, the sooner I get them off!

I haven't done one of these posts in a long time. Okay, who am I kidding - I just haven't posted in a long time. My bad! I've been trying to play catch up in every aspect of my life since the craziness that was the month of September/beginning of October,  and unfortunately this space of mine has suffered. I've got some really awesome (at least I think so!) posts planned for the near future though so don't give up on me yet!

Dream Vacation...

As soon as I saw what today's prompt for #Blogtober14 was I knew that I would be participating. My love of traveling + being a total dreamer means I LOVE to daydream about my vacation plans. I have so many places I want to visit/re-visit (I'm still working on my Travel Bucket List post thanks to the inspiration of Helene), but there is one thing that sticks out in my mind as my ultimate dream vacation. No it's not Hawaii, Australia, Venice, or Greece - though they are included on my travel bucket list. Actually, my dream vacation doesn't require that I travel too far from my home here in Saskatchewan.

My dream vacation is to take a tour of the United States and Canada - Chicago, NYC (of course), Los Angeles, San Francisco, Cape May, Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte, New Orleans, Charleston, Denver, Austin, Boston, Jackson Hole, Montreal, Toronto, & Vancouver. And I don't mean take one trip to Boston, then a few months later take another trip to New Orleans. I want to see it all in one vacation - something like this Contiki tour. I can do a week long Mexican vacation or a another road trip to Texas anytime, but taking a month or more off of work just to travel and explore would be the BEST. I always hate when a vacation ends and I usually immediately start planning a new one. With my dream vacation I would be hitting up so many different places that I've wanted to see for so long all at once and I think I would be satisfied with no vacation plans for awhile afterwards.

My sister and I talk all the time about  jumping in the car and heading off on an adventure - stopping along the way when we see something interesting. However, our jobs and her tiny humans don't really allow for too much spontaneity when it comes to traveling. One day maybe we'll get to do that, but until then, my dream vacation awaits me.

What's your dream vacation?

I'm An Expert At...

I've never been the type of person to toot my own horn - I'm definitely not the type of person to take a selfie a day and post for the world to see (I'm looking at you girl I graduated with...) or praise myself on my FB status for things that everyone else in the world does every single day (looking at you girl I used to work with...). Instead, I'm the type of person who at age 27 still doesn't really know who I am. Finding things that I'd consider myself an 'expert' at was hard... at first. Then, when my third cup of coffee kicked in and my brain started going my list started growing

I'm an expert at... procrastinating. Case in point - it's now October 17th (what?!) and I'm just now getting around to participating in #Blogtober14

I'm an expert at... vacationing. I'm not to patiently waiting for the day that I can list 'Vacationer' as my full time job title

I'm an expert at... dreaming BIG. My move from small town SK to NYC is still in my future

I'm an expert at... creating a budget and blowing it days later. I needed that $250 winter jacket I just bought. NEEDED it! I also need a trip to Vegas like I need to breathe - stay tuned on this one

I'm an expert at... quoting Mean Girls

Source
I'm an expert at... HIMYM trivia. Especially anything to do with Robin Scherbatsky, aka Canadian pop sensation Robin Sparkles

I'm an expert at... reading and typing fast. Like super fast. I'm still trying to figure out a job where I could put either of these 'skills' to use

I'm an expert at... party planning and decorating - even at the last minute. See here for proof

I'm an expert at... making to do lists. Whether or not I cross off any of the items on my to do lists is another story...

I'm an expert at... binge watching television shows. When I started watching SOA a few years ago I ended up getting ONE hour of sleep the entire night because I could not stop watching. That day at work was hella hard

I'm an expert at... making Monthly Goals and then forgetting about them until the end of the month...

I'm an expert at... list-type blog posts. I'm pretty sure 75% of my posts are of that variety

I'm an expert at... not knowing directions. Thank goodness my SUV has a compass and OnStar in case I get lost...

Oh, and it goes without saying (though I am saying it...) - I'm an expert at my job and at being a puppy mama to Krickit. Toot Toot!

Life Lately In Numbers...

Number of hours of overtime I've put in at work since the beginning of September: 48.75
The reason for my absence around the blog world lately. When I'm working crazy hours I just don't have the time to put in to extracurricular activities like blogging because I'm going home so exhausted after long days or even taking work home with me

Number of bottles of wine drank since Friday: 3
Days off of work (hallelujah!) and the fact that it was Thanksgiving here in the GWN were the reason for this one. I normally would only drink one bottle a weekend, I swear!

Number of wedding dresses my future SIL tried on in the Queen City on Saturday: 10
The fact that every single dress looked amazing on her makes me want to throat punch her

Number of pictures deleted off my laptop over the long weekend: 1,034
Those were just the ones deleted. I may have a problem...

Number of PLL episodes re-watched since Thursday while working on laptop: 48
If my TV is on chances are I'm either watching HIMYM or PLL. Apparently I like shows where the title is an acronym

Number of pictures ordered on Shutterfly over the long weekend: 678
Shutterfly had free shipping to Canada on orders over $70 so I was all over that. Now maybe I'll finally get myself caught up on Project Life...

Number of points we lost by in Monday's football game: 31
Our starting QB was injured during the Banjo Bowl and our back up QB just doesn't get it done like Durant does

Number of days that I'll be eating leftover turkey after our Thanksgiving supper on Sunday: 7
The turkey my Mama cooked was the hugest turkey I've ever seen. I see turkey fried rice and turkey noodle soup in my future...

Number of birth control packs that have mysteriously disappeared from my home: 1
If you were my birth control where would you be?!

Number of months its been since my last haircut: 3
My hair is basically one big split end, but I'm still protesting the fact that my hairdresser of 4+ years moved to Alberta :(

Number of dollars it is going to cost me to get a perfect smile: 6,600
This girl is getting braces on November 27th and I'm actually super excited to finally get a new smile. Oh, and that number above doesn't account for the fuel costs to drive to my orthodontist in the Queen City ( 2 1/2 hrs away) every 5 weeks, or the 2 wisdom teeth and three other teeth that need to be extracted. I need a money tree :(

Number of days until Christmas: 70
Sorry y'all, I had to!

Number of characters we currently have picked out for our Mean Girls ensemble Halloween costumes: 4
Karen, Glen Coco, Gretchen, and Regina's Mom have been locked down, now we just need to find a Cady, Regina, Damian, and Janis

Number of times I almost booked a trip to Vegas in the last few days: 3
As a Total Rewards member I received a code for 2 nights free stay at a a few hotels in Vegas, one of them being the Flamingo (my favourite!) and the dates the free nights are for also coincide with very cheap flights from Minot to Vegas. I've filled out all the information for both the free nights stay and for the flights 3 different times and almost hit enter before backing out. I may still hit enter though...

Number of dog accessories bought at Target since Saturday: 11
It's totally normal for one puppy to have 5 different collars, three different leashes, 4 collar accessories, two Halloween costumes, and a million bagillion toys right? (please say yes..)

Long Weekend Ahead...

I haven't done a Friday 5 post in a long time - okay, who am I kidding, I just haven't consistently posted in a long time. But, I'm jumping back into things and figured why not start with one of my favourite link ups

1// Saturday night was Girls Night Out - something that was very much needed as I hadn't had one in a looong time. These girls are more than friends, they're family (ok, two of them actually are family - one is my sister and one is my cousin). We had supper and drinks at the Olive Branch Bistro in C-duff (sooo delish) and then headed back to O-town for some drinks and Cards Against Humanity at Jayden's. Afterwards we headed back to C-duff to a Ladies Night Out dance. I didn't make it home until after 3 am which is the longest I have been up in way too long. When did I get old?!

\

2// All weekend long I had a terrible toothache - the first one I've had since I was a kid. It was so bad on Sunday that I had to take some leftover T3's from my surgery last year to numb the pain. The pain in my tooth went away but the T3's killed my stomach. T3's + an empty stomach = no bueno. I called the dentist first thing Monday morning and got an appointment for 1:00 that afternoon. I ended up getting half a root canal, and then being told that a filling I had done when I was 11 was wreaking havoc and I would now require a trip to an Endodontist to finish the root canal - to the tune of $1,100. The dental office also bumped up my wisdom teeth surgery, which will be happening in a few weeks - because they are also wreaking havoc. Add all that to the fact that I go to a consultation with an Orthodontist on Tuesday and I've filled my quota for dentist visits for the next 10 years (kidding. sort of)

3// Yesterday I had the day off work and managed to get a few things knocked off of my to - do list. I had planned on accomplishing more bu the weather was surprisingly gorgeous so Krickit and I spent some quality time outside enjoying the fall weather

4// Yesterday I posted my Monthly Goals for October. On my monthly goals list for months now has been to give Eleanor, my SUV, a 'bath'. Each month it got carried over until finally yesterday I took it off my monthly goals, even though I hadn't ever gotten around to doing it, because the weather has been so chilly that I figured I wouldn't get around to it until Spring. However, after writing that post in the morning, I was pleasantly surprised to discover how nice it was outside. After my Mama cleaned out her Mustang to store it for the Winter, I decided it was time for Eleanor to finally get her 'bath. She is now gleaming on the inside and it feels so good to have that item off my to - do list! Now if only all my car wash loonies hadn't been stolen out of her on Monday night she could also be gleaming on the outside...

\

5// After running some errands for work yesterday (a day off is never actually a day off in my world...) I came home to find some snail mail just for me. I've made no secret of my love for snail mail, and was super excited to get my sweet friend Amanda's baby announcement for Rhea in the mail, all the way from Nunavut. Amanda and her family moved back home just after Rhea was born and all of Beaver Cove misses them so much

I have one more day of work to get through and then its an extra long weekend for me! This weekend is Thanksgiving around these parts and not only am I super excited for some days off, but I am also excited for turkey and all the fixings. I get to go wedding dress shopping with my (future) SIL on Saturday and then have an extra day off on Tuesday when I head back to the Queen City again for my orthodontist appointment. I've got big plans to get things knocked off my to - do list in my spare time this weekend AND also finally catch up on reading and commenting on blogs! Wish me luck!

Happy Thanksgiving weekend to all my Canadian friends!

October Goals...

Helllooooo October. As sad as I am that Summer is over, the fact that Autumn is sooo gorgeous definitely helps me get over some of the sadness. Talk to me in a couple of months when  its still technically Fall but the Winter blues have already kicked in and I'll definitely be singing a different tune...

I posted my Fall Bucket List last week, and now its that time again for my Monthly Goals. But first, my September 'progress' (or lack thereof...)
1. Hit publish on my #10daysinTexas vacation recap. Hasn't happened yet - trying to recap that amazing vacation is too hard. It makes me sad whenever I write about it and remember that I'm currently in small town Saskatchewan with no vacations planned :( BUT I will get it all written out eventually

2. Complete my Summer Bucket List.  I'm not crossing this off the list since I didn't complete every single item - those will just have to be crossed over to my Summer 2015 (!) Bucket List

3. Do five projects from my Pinterest boards.  With the girls Nightmare Before Christmas themed birthday party I managed to knock this off my list

4. Complete at least 1 month in my 2011 & 2012 Project Life albums. No. Just no

5. Give Eleanor a 'bath'. Poor Eleanor hasn't had a 'bath'in over a year, and now with the weather already dipping into the negatives, it's probably not going to happen anytime soon

6. Try four new recipes this month. Negatory. Not even one...

'Chuck it in the fuck it bucket and move on' - one of my College friends posted this quote on IG a few months ago and it's stuck with me ever since.  That's what I'm doing with the lack of progress in September. It really was such a clusterfuck of a month (sorry for all the F-bombs, but it perfectly describes the past 4 weeks) but I'm ready for a new month and plan on making good progress on both my Monthly Goals and my Fall Bucket List

1. Send out 4 forms of snail mail

2. Finish reading Insurgent and start and finish Divergent (so I can get them off my nightstand and back to my sister!)

3. Get my hair trimmed

4. Do 5 'projects' from my Pinterest boards

5. Get back into a fitness routine

6. Get started on Christmas shopping (wahoooo!)

7. Get caught up on reading and commenting on some of my favourite blogs - I've missed interacting!

8. Finish de-cluttering and organizing around the house

9. Get my personal email inbox cleaned out and ALL messages replied to

10. Publish at least 10 blog posts this month

What are your October Goals?

Fall Bucket List 2014...

Hello, there (is this thing on?) I have been MIA for quite some time and it has made me so sad that I haven't had a chance to be writing and connecting lately. But work has slowed down and my stress levels are going down so I'm getting back at it - I've really missed it!

Back in June I created my Summer Bucket List and though I didn't cross off everything I did do pretty well considering I was quite ambitious with my list. Now it's officially Fall (I'm shedding a few tears for Summer right now...) and time to create my Fall Bucket List. Here we go:

- Visit Meandher Creek Pumpkin Patch
I haven't been in a couple of years - hopefully the weather will co-operate the next few weekends!

- Make a huge pot of chili on a chilly game day
I love chili no matter the season but there is just something that makes it that much better when its a chilly day and there is a football game on tv

- Watch a scary movie
I HATE scary movies so I'm thinking something more campy than actually scary. After watching The Conjuring with my family last Thanksgiving I'm good on my scary movie quota for another 10 years

- Have a Harry Potter movie marathon
So excited for this - also, I'm going to make some HP themed snacks and drinks ala butterbeer and polyjuice potion

- Make apple crisp
I could live off of apple crisp, but despite the fact that there are healthy apples involved, there is also a ton of sugar so its really a good thing that I don't make it very often

- Make a homemade potato soup
I make Paula Deens crockpot potato soup quite often but want to try an actual potato soup from scrath recipe -  I think I might attempt this one

- Carve a pumpkin
But someone else will have to deal with the guts because slime is not my thing. Blechh

- Try every holiday drink on the Starbucks menu
I can't wait for red cup season. Caramel Brulee Lattes Mmmmmm

- Make Reese's oatmeal cookies
The colours in them just scream FALL, plus any cookie with oatmeal is delish (unless there are raisins involved...). These cookies disappear so fast in my house

- Watch a Rider game at Mosaic Stadium
Going on November 8th to watch the Riders take on the Eskimos. Hopefully the snow will hold off until after the 8th!

- Have a Family Game Night
Leftover item from my Summer Bucket List. Hopefully I'll get this crossed off sooner rather than later - I love game nights!

- Help Kelsey make her way through my 'Must Watch Movie List'
Varsity Blues, Cruel Intentions, When Harry Met Sally, Field of Dreams, Michael, Pretty Woman, Now and Then, Armageddon, Clueless, The Nightmare Before Christmas - just to name a few. The silly girl has never seen some of my favourites! I had this on my Summer Bucket List as well and the only movie we crossed off the list was She's All That. I'm hoping for more progress this time around

- Decorate the house for Halloween
I got to pull some of my decorations out for the girls Nightmare Before Christmas themed birthday party, but can't wait to get it all up around the house. Halloween and Christmas are my absolute favourite things EVER

- Make a homemade Halloween costume ala Halloween 2013
Costumes are planned, now we just have to figure out where we are going to wear them

- Make a Halloween wreath
I already have all the supplies at home, don't even have to make a trip to Minot for them - hopefully I'll get it done!

- Make a chicken pot pie from scratch
Until a few weeks ago I had never had chicken pot pie. Like, ever. My aunt fed us it when we were at the lake and it was soooo yummy and now I want to try to make one myself. Wish me luck!

- Re-read To Kill A Mockingbird
Haven't read it in a long time - too long - so I'm due for a re-read

- Have a freezer meal making day
I've been wanting to do this for forever so I'm finally going to make myself get it done

- Play Jessica Garvin's Hocus Pocus Drinking Game
I'll probably watch Hocus Pocus no less than 20 times, and at least one of those times I want to play the game

- Take a weekend getaway to do some Christmas shopping
Our Minneapolis trip for the girls birthday has been pushed to late Winter/Early Spring because Toni couldn't get the days off we planned on going, so I'm thinking maybe a Minot or Bismarck trip

- Visit a haunted house
Not an actual haunted house (no way you would get me anywhere near one of them at my age!) but a Halloween haunted house put on by a community organization. I may take a small child with me so they don't do anything actually scary...

- Watch The Nightmare Before Christmas, Double, Double Toil and Trouble, Practical Magic, and Casper
Pretty self explanatory

- Take fall photos of the girls
Fall is just the prettiest of all the seasons

- Watch all the Halloween episodes of HIMYM
I mean, I watch it every night before bed so might as well fit all the Halloween episodes in

- Complete another round of the Whole30
I think I can, I think I can... BUT it has to be carefully planned around any holidays!

What's on your Fall Bucket List?
