Currently (November 2015)...

Currently its November 20th and there is NO SNOW on the ground! That never happens. There is usually snow on the ground by Halloween so I am LOVING this. What I'm not loving, however, is the temperatures that feel like -20. No thank you! A winter storm blew in on Wednesday, bringing winds of up to 106 km/hr - it was insane. I've never experienced winds that crazy before. I was supposed to head to the Queen City on Wednesday for my orthodontist appointment but my parents talked me out of going because of the weather mans prediction that road conditions were going to be terrible. It was freezing rain in O-town Wednesday morning and everything was covered in ice so I took their advice and didn't go. Only for the terrible winds to be the only thing that happened - the roads were fine. Now I have to attempt another trip to Regina in two weeks and I'm just praying that the weather will stay good for it. Have I mentioned how much I despise Winter?!

Anywhoodle, I love doing these 'Currently' posts every month so I can look back and see what I was up to.  Somehow I missed doing one last month - whoops! Each month it seems like I'm up to something completely different than the previous month.

Currently...

Reading Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling. My sister binge watched The Office on Netflix, realized how great Mindy Kaling is, and decided to buy all her books. She passed her first book off to me as soon as she was finished. I also have about 8 other books in my reading pile and I'm hoping to get at least four of them finished this weekend

Listening to Chris Stapleton/Justin Timberlake's duet of Tennessee Whiskey from the CMA's - I'm obsessed. And of course, all the Christmas music (obviously)

Said no one EVER!

Celebrating the month of November? Thanksgiving is already over and done with for us here in the GWN so there's not much to celebrate in November. Just Santa's upcoming visit I suppose haha

Enjoying crossing things off of my to-do lists. Things are finally happening around here that have needed to for sooooo long. I found some motivation and it still hasn't left me (thank goodness!) I just hope its hear to stay! Those Winter Blues can creep up on me real fast

Waiting for Christmas to hurry up and get here. Though I know as soon as it does get here I'll be a sad panda that I have to wait an entire year for it to come back again. The struggle is real

Loving seeing all the Christmas lights everywhere and the pictures of everyone's Christmas tree's and decorations all over IG and FB. My Christmas decorating is going to get finished this weekend!

Working my way through the Quit Your Job to Blog course and also working on a million different blog posts - my draft folder is so full right now. There's lots coming up on this little space of mine and I'm really excited about it!

Wearing the new clothes that I bought while in Winnipeg and desperately needed. I now have more than three pairs of pants y'all! Though a couple of the shirts I bought are hand wash/dry clean only (eye roll) and that just annoys me

Anticipating Christmas and everything that comes along with it. Christmas parties, cookie swaps, etc. This is my happy time!

Planning Wine Club's Christmas Party. Ugly Christmas Sweaters, a Photo Booth complete with Christmas props, Holiday Sangria, and a Jello shot Christmas tree are just a few of the things I'm planning

Making all.the.things from Pinterest. I love Pinterest even more than ever around the holidays. There are so many great ideas. If only I had them time for them all!

Five on Friday the 13th...

Happy Friday the 13th y'all! The number 13 is my favourite number so Friday the 13th is one of my favourite days! You'd never guess that I'm extremely superstitious considering my love for the number 13. I'm just weird like that. Today is a Friday that feels like a Monday but thank goodness it is actually Friday! I have supper plans with the Beaver Cove crew tonight and then big plans afterwards that include catching up on my reading pile and trying a new wine. I'm so much fun, I know. But enough of about my super exciting Friday (the 13th) night plans - on to my list of Five Things on this Friday the 13th

ONE
It's November 13th and I'm already 25% done my Christmas shopping. That has NEVER happened before. Like, ever. I'm going to a trade show in a neighbouring town tomorrow and I'm hoping to knock a few more things off of my list too. I'm setting a goal to have ALL my Christmas shopping finished by December 13th, before I get busier with my part time job. I may even be an overachiever and have them all wrapped by then - we'll see how ambitious I get

This is usually me - but not this year!
TWO
I LOVE getting Christmas cards around the holidays and I especially love that now its the norm to do cards with photos on them. Each year I get more and more of them and I usually leave them up until at least Valentine's Day. Would it be completely ridiculous if I sent out Christmas cards with a photo of me and Krickit? Don't answer that....

THREE
I'm currently working on a Christmas Gift Guide for the blog and it is pretty much just a Wish List for myself. Which I will most likely end up buying for myself. I have a feeling this is going to be very bad for my budget...

FOUR
I never thought it would be SO difficult to plan one single day in a month that works for 6 people to all get together but trying to find a night for Wine Club that works for every single person is almost a full time job. We're completely skipping over November's Wine Club and trying to plan December's (my month to host) has been a complete gong show. Why is adult life so busy?!

FIVE
Trying to ignore the leftover Halloween candy has not been going so well for me. At all. I've ate more chocolate (and I don't even like chocolate!) in the the last two weeks than in the last 5 years! Not even kidding. Yesterday I had to finally get it out of my sight - my nieces are really appreciating it and thanked me for giving them all the extra candy. I was off work yesterday and my motivation is still going strong so I completely cleaned out one of the spare bedrooms and turned it into my workout space. I moved my elliptical in there, set up my yoga mat, and moved my old tv into the room as well as my basket of Jillian Michaels dvds and my hand weights. My treadmill wouldn't fit through the doors (boooo) so its still in the family room downstairs but I'm excited to start using the space and get back at it!
It's not fancy but it works!

What are YOUR plans for Friday the 13th?

This Is Halloween 2015...

October 31st is my third favourite day of the year. December 25th and 24th are number one and two respectively (obviously).  Christmas is the only thing I love more than Halloween. Some people find it surprising that Halloween is one of my favourite things considering I can't watch scary movies alone and am terrified of anything paranormal. I wouldn't even sleep downstairs alone when I was younger and I still check behind shower curtains and triple check that doors are locked when I'm home alone. I'm a big ole' scaredy cat. And yet I LOVE Halloween and everything about it. It just brings out the kid in me.
source
I always over do it and buy WAY too much candy, but that's just the giver in me (I get that from my parents - they've always given out the best Halloween treat bags in town). My Halloween decorations start making an appearance as soon as October rolls around and I can never resist the allure of the Dollar Store Halloween section. Every year I tell myself that I have enough but I can never actually convince myself and I always add a few more things to my Halloween decor collection. I love decorating for Halloween and I can't wait until the day where I finally have a space to call ALL my own and can go as crazy as I want to.

I didn't do as much decorating in the porch this year as I normally do, but I did buy an inflatable decoration for $10 that was on a online garage sale site and set that up outside. It was worth every penny. My parents got more kids at their door this year than any other year since they moved into the house in 2007 and I take all the credit with my awesome garage sale find. Their house is on the outskirts of town and they don't have very many neighbours so it's not just a place you would stop on your way anywhere but my Halloween inflatable got kids to the door!

I love helping my sister pick out costumes for my nieces. In 2013 & 2014 they went in coordinating costumes - as a parrot and pirate and Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf - so when my sister still didn't have costumes for them a week before Halloween I suggested they go as a scarecrow and a crow. These costumes were so easy to make and SO inexpensive. For Graycie's crow costume I bought two feather boas at the Dollar Store and Toni safety pinned them to her sweater. She just wore black clothing and a black toque, gloves, and boots and black facepaint completed her crow look (though some people thought she was dressed as a burglar! haha). Rae's costume was made of all recycled things too, aside from the crow on her shoulder that I also purchased at the Dollar Store. The hat is a floppy hat of mine that didn't survive a trip back from Vegas in my suitcase but I kept with my Halloween stuff for times just like this. Toni brought me an old pair of Rae's jeans and I sewed patches on them (I stabbed her with a sewing pin at one point too - poor girl!) and the shirt is one she wears all the time. I got the straw for her costume off of a Scarecrow decoration from the Dollar Store and followed directions from a picture on Pinterest for her makeup. And VOILA. Their costumes were done.

I even carved a pumpkin this year for the first time in probably 10 years. I don't like the smell of pumpkin and cannot stand the feeling of pumpkin guts between my fingers so it's not my favourite thing to do BUT it was on my Fall Bucket List to carve a pumpkin so I made sure it got crossed off the list. I thought I would just cut out two triangle eyes and make a jagged mouth and call it a day... until I found a Toronto Blue Jays stencil for pumpking carving. It was SO hard - there were way too many small lines to cut but it turned out pretty decent. My maple leaf could use some work...
But that's not everything from Halloween 2015. A group of friends and I started a Wine Club and the first official night was on Halloween - more on that in a later post!

What's your favourite thing about Halloween?

In Remembrance...

When I (finally) got some motivation to blog again on Sunday I started writing out posts for the week, without really realizing what week was coming up. When I opened up my dashboard last night to edit my post for today I realized that I had a Halloween Recap post planned for today... Remembrance Day. Obviously that post has been pushed until tomorrow in observance of Remembrance Day.

My 5 year old niece has been learning about Remembrance Day in Kindergarten and last night she got a few pieces of printer paper, stapled them together, and created a book called 'Soldiers'. She told her Mom what she wanted the book to say, wrote her name on the back of the book, and even included a drawing of a poppy (her teacher has been showing her class how to draw them). She plans on taking her book to her Kindergarten class for them to read so they can learn more about the soldiers. The writer and reader in me is so proud of her for being so excited about learning that she wanted to make something so others could learn too! After completing her book she then proceeded to ask if my Grandma, who passed away when she was 2, died in the war. Kids say the darndest things.

After Graycie made her book her 9 year old sister proceeded to show me a video on YouTube of the song her class sang during the Remembrance Day assembly at school and luckily for me, she sang along with the entire thing just for me...

I love that my nieces are learning all about Remembrance Day and that they are actually excited to learn about it and want to know more. As someone who is constantly wanting to learn and better myself it makes me SO happy!  I still remember the day that I won an award in junior high for my drawing of the local Cenotaph - I still have that award somewhere. I just wish I had a copy of my drawing. I put so much time and effort into that drawing, actually going to the Cenotaph to study it. I am NO artist so I was SO proud of myself when I won the award. Never mind that they messed up and I was competing with kids one grade younger than me...

November Goals...

Whelp. No need to recap my progress from my October Goals because... well, there was no progress. Whomp whomp. October was a terrible month for me, I just couldn't get motivation for anything while I was trying to find balance in my life. I'm feeling a little more on track as a new month starts though so I'm feeling pretty optimistic that I can accomplish my goals!

November Goals

1. Complete at least five more items off of my Fall Bucket List
Though Winter technically doesn't begin until December 22nd it is going to feel like Winter around here right away so I want to get all my fall related things crossed off my list as soon as possible. The fact that there is no snow on the ground near the middle of November is crazy - but I'll take it! Though I don't know how much longer it will last. As soon as Christmas is over I'm going to be counting down the days until Spring...

2. Complete my step goal each day
For over a week my FitBit just would not sync - I knew that I was meeting my 10K step goal most days because it would buzz on my wrist when I got to my goal but it wouldn't sync to show me how many steps for sure. I complained on Twitter and FitBit Support tweeted back at me how to reset it and it's finally working again - hallelujah! I felt SO lost without it. On Sunday I was at almost 20K steps for the day by the time I headed to bed. I've had my FitBit for about 10 months now and I honestly think its the main reason I've been successful with my fitness/weight loss goals! I aim for 10K steps every single day but the days that I work in the city I aim for at least 15K. On my progress report for the last week it said that I was getting a daily average of 13,324 steps per day!

3. Have a freezer meal making day
This NEEDS to happen. Asap. I'm thinking that when I'm in the Queen City next Wednesday for my orthodontist appointment I'll try to get all the groceries bought so I can get freezer meal making that weekend. Now to clear out some freezer space. My work just did a fundraiser through Ogies Perogies and the deep freezer is FULL of perogies (yumm!) and other items from the fundraiser. I guess that means I just need to stuff myself full of perogies for the next week...

4. Buy/create five more Christmas gifts
I already have a few Christmas gifts bought, which NEVER happens, so I'm already ahead of myself (for once!) but would like to get a few more finished before the craziness that is December hits. I'm normally a last minute shopper which usually means spending double my budget trying to over compensate for the last minute shopping. But not this year! I'm wanting to do a few 'homemade' items this year too which take more time so I better get started now!

5. Send out 5 forms of snail mail
I LOVE getting snail mail, especially around the holidays. Getting the mail and finding Christmas Cards is my favourite! I ordered these address labels through (another) fundraiser through my work and it will make my life so much easier when sending out snail mail around the holidays. If you want to receive some snail mail from me send me your mailing address - krmathison@hotmail.com

6. Get my Christmas decorating on
Two more sleeps until my Christmas decorating can begin! I should probably take down the last of my Halloween decorations before then...

7. Make plans for a trip to Saskatoon with my Mama to see my Aunt's Winter Wonderland and Uncle
Last year my Mama, sister, and I headed up to Saskatoon for a weekend so Toni could attend a course and we stayed Mama's brother Butch and his wife.  My Aunt Gina LOVES Christmas - even more than I do (!) - and transforms her house into a Winter Wonderland each year - it looks like Santa's workshop, no joke. She told me the other day that Christmas was all set up and waiting my arrival so now its just to find the right dates to head up there. I can't wait (the fact that I'll get Starbucks is an added bonus...)

8. Make myself a cleaning schedule
This is something that I've been meaning to do for months now. I'm a list maker through and through so having a list of things to accomplish each week when it comes to cleaning is exactly what I need. Before I started working every Sunday I had planned on making Sunday my cleaning day but now that I work part time I need to make a bunch of adjustments. My poor bathroom looks like a bomb went off in it and when I did laundry on Sunday night it had been at least 10 days since the last time I did it - terrible!

Eight goals might seem a little lofty when I didn't manage to do a single one of the five that I made myself for October but I'm a glass half full kind of girl so I'm going to give it a whirl - wish me luck!

Guess Who's Back. Back Again...

(If you don't have Eminem lyrics stuck in your head now then we can't be friends)

Hellooo long lost blog friends! Today I worked a 7 hour shift at my part time job, spent an hour and a half traveling to and from said part time job, did three loads of laundry, took Krickit for a 45 minute evening walk (it was SO gorgeous out that I couldn't pass it up - one week into November and its +6 at 7:00 at night and there's NO snow on the ground?! I'll take it!) AND I even managed to write a blog post! (In case you're confused, I'm writing this on Sunday night). I didn't show up on the blog a single day last week and yet today, after working all weekend (I took an extra shift on Saturday), I've managed to accomplish things that I've been meaning to get to for forever. I don't know where this extra energy came from but I'll take it! It could be the copious amounts of leftover Halloween candy that I ate at work today that left me with a sore stomach from eating so much... But I guess we'll never know for sure ;)

What's even better? I have posts scheduled for every single day this week. Every.single.day! Who am I?! They still need to be edited but they've been started and that has never happened in the history of my blogging 'career'.

source
Moving on from bragging about the only productive day I've had in weeks (months?) - guess what popped up on my Facebook feed earlier today? A picture that said there are only SEVEN Monday's left until Christmas. Seven! I had a mini panic attack because there is so much to do and SO many Creme Brulee Latte's to be drank! This Wednesday is Remembrance Day in Canada, which means no work for moi, so I'm going to pull out my Christmas decorations so that first thing Thursday morning my Christmas decorating can commence!

I live and breathe for Christmas. It is my absolute favourite time of year. I despise Winter but tolerate it just for the fact that that is when Christmas comes. I managed to get a few Christmas presents bought while I was in Winnipeg last week and I'm pretty sure that's the earliest that that has ever happened. Come Thursday my 'Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animal' sweater is going to be worn every day, Christmas music will be the only music played in Eleanor, and Home Alone, Love, Actually, Elf, Home Alone 2, The Santa Clause, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Christoper the Christmas Tree are going to be the only things on my tv until January 1st. I can't wait until everyone's Christmas lights are lit up at night, all the stores are decorated, and the XM Christmas stations arrive.  Now if the snow could just hold off until December 24th that would be great...

source
I'm pretty sure this is the most random and pointless post I've ever written but I'm writing again so I'm calling it a win. I promise that the rest of the posts for this week aren't as pointless and random (or at least I don't think so). Now I'm off to polish off the rest of my Halloween candy and finally take down all my Halloween decor...
