Currently (July 2016)...

Happy Friday y'all! Today is actually a bittersweet Friday for me. On one hand I'm happy that it's finally Friday and my last day of work for 9 days (at both jobs!) BUT on the other hand, I was supposed to be leaving for #10DaysInTexas tonight and the fact that I'm not makes me a super sad panda. Some things came up that made my brother and SIL unable to make the trip. My sister and I thought about going just the two of us but we just don't think we can do the 27 hour drive ourselves plus the cost of everything would only be split in two now and we hadn't budgeted for that. Unfortunately #10DaysInTexas is no more. I will get back to Texas one day though y'all. That's a guarantee. I'll just be dreaming about all the amazing Tex-Mex until then...

Once again almost an entire month as gone by with me neglecting this space of mine. I just still haven't found a balance in my life to fit blogging back in. The fact that July completely flew by hasn't helped at all either. I took my laptop with me when I went to MN for a week, thinking I would have lots of time to work on some posts, but my laptop didn't even make it out of my bag once. Whoops.

I have SO much to post about, mostly just for myself because I like documenting my Summer, vacations, etc. but actually putting fingers to the keyboard has not been easy. During my time off I'm going to come up with a strategy to balance things so I can fit bloggin back into my life (hopefully). And hey, at least my July Currently post is being posted in July. June's may have been a few days late...

Reading three different books at the moment. I'm still working my way through the Harry Potter series for my annual HP Summer Re-read, as well as still working through Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. I just picked up a new book while in the Queen City on Wednesday, A Game For All The Family by Sophie Hannah, and I started it right away because I couldn't help myself. With 9 days off of work after today I hope to whittle my reading pile waay down. And finally finish the ones from last Summer...

Listening to The Highway on XM or different country music playlists on Spotify. As per usual. Right now I am loving Vice by Miranda Lambert, Are You With Me by Easton Corbin, and Saltwater Gospel by the Eli Young Band. I just can't get enough of these songs!

Celebrating my birthday month - I'm officially 29 y'all! (I've only been rounding up to 29 since the beginning of the year...)

Watching the last season of The Office. I had been powering through the seasons - I only started the series in mid-June - but now I'm limiting myself to 1-2 episodes a day because I'm sad that its nearing the end. MN and I got through almost an entire season when I was there last and when I got back home I went back and re-watched some of my favourite episodes from earlier seasons so that I wouldn't get done the series and then be depressed that it was all over (I have issues, clearly)

Drinking Shakeology (yay to being back at it!), Leinenkugel beers - Berry Weiss and Grapefruit Shandy (sooo good!), coffee, and water. Pretty much my go to these days. I so wish I could get the Leinenkugel beers here in Canada. I could only bring back 12 when I came home from MN last week so I am limiting myself to only a couple a week so I can enjoy them for longer and won't run out before my next trip to MN

Waiting for my next trip to MN - hopefully a few days during the second last week of August. I still have to figure out some logistics but a month in between visits is too long. I've had some staffing changes at work that make my schedule a little hard to juggle in August but I'm hoping to make it work (cross your fingers for me!)

Loving Summer! I't just my favourite (next to Christmas...) I can't believe how fast it is flying by though. I still have SO much to cross off of my Summer Bucket List. Hopefully in these 9 days off of work I can get the list at least 3/4 done. Wish me luck!

Working on a million different blog posts - I'm sooo behind. Good thing I have 9 days off of work to finally catch up..

Wearing all the comfy clothes because I ate and drank all the things while in the Twin Cities for Girls Weekend and now none of my clothes fit...

Anticipating 9 days off of work! Can't.freaking.wait

Making plans for my days off now that there's no Texas in my future (wahhhh). If anything I might finally get all my Christmas decorations put away in all of my spare time...

June Happenings...

What's New With You

With taking a hiatus from the blog world for the past couple of months I have definitely missed this link up - its my favourite! I blog to document my life so this link up is right up my alley. I'm super bummed at myself for not having my shit together to do this the last two months :( But I can't change it, just have to accept it, and try harder to make it to this space from now on!

June Happenings...

At the beginning of June I said goodbye to the Twin, as she moved to BC for a new job opportunity. I was super sad to say goodbye but now I'm excited to be able to go out and visit because she is living in Wine Country. Ummmm, yes please! Before she left we were able to get Beaver Cove together for one last supper with those that are still around this area. Slowly all of our town council members are leaving :( I get super jealous whenever she sends me snaps of the mountains outside her windows. The only thing I see outside my window is a bluff of trees where wild animals live. Oh, and where our sewer dumps...

We took over my Aunt's garage at the beginning of the month and held a garage sale. I sold my kitchen table for travelling money and my bed for tattoo money. That's how adulting works, right? I love the idea of garage sales because I like de-cluttering and making 1/10 of what I spent on something (ha) but it really makes me realize how much I am not a people person. I pretty much spent the entire time hiding in a corner with a drink in my hand so that people wouldn't talk to me...

Scooby and I headed to Brandon on June 4th. We got to the city late that night since I couldn't leave until after the garage sale was done so we had a really late supper and drinks and then drank a bit in our hotel room before passing out just after midnight. You know you're getting old when...
I was up by 4:30 the next morning - there's just something about being in hotels that makes me wake up super early. We drove to Starbucks in our pj's and were at the doors just as they were opening at 7. I need coffee to survive so there is no shame in my game. After we got ready for the day and checked out of our hotel we hit up Browns Social House for brunch (and mimosas of course) and then it was time for the actual reason for our trip - getting tattoos.  I've had the itch for a new one - this was my 11th - for a long time now so it was waaay overdue. There's a long story behind the tattoo - maybe one day I'll tell ya about it (don't hold your breath because we both know how terrible I am at this blogging thing...)

My mama, sister, aunt, cousin, and I went to see Theresa Caputo in 'the city' on June 12th. It was definitely an experience but I personally like watching her better on tv because then you get to know people's back stories (I'm nosy AF). I actually knew some of the people that she read so it made me a little less skeptical about the whole thing. I'm a believer but also not a believer if that makes any sense. My sister gave me part of my birthday present early that night when we got home- she knows me so well!

I spent the first day of Summer in the Queen City at my orthodontist appointment. I literally had nothing to do in the city besides my appointment so I spent a ridiculous amount of time wandering around Chapters while sipping on an iced caramel macchiato from Starbucks. I found so many cute homeware things but had to force myself not to buy any of them. I did let myself buy a new book.. only to find out that my sister already owns it. Of course.

The fair was in 'the city' June 20-22 and after the passing of a close family friend at the beginning of that week a trip to the fair to escape real life was just what the doctor ordered. I usually invite myself along with my sister and her kids every year just for the mini donuts. They're my favourite!

Close to the end of the month I did one of the scariest and craziest things in my life, something that completely pushed me out of my comfort zone (because anxiety). I got on a train for 10 hours to go see someone in another country that I had only actually spent a handful of hours with. (You can call me crazy, because I do all the time).

I met Minnesota (obviously not his real name but everyone in my life needs a nickname) while in the Twin Cities in May for the Blue Jays vs Twins series. He was also at the game on the last day of our trip and I made him buy me, my brother, and my SIL $9 beers at the stadium on his birthday (aren't I nice... haha). We hung out for quite some time during the game before finally realizing that we had paid to see the game and weren't actually watching any of it. I went back to my seat and he went to his but we made plans to meet up after the game.  We had had to check out of our hotel that morning because we were catching the train back home at 10:30 that night so the plan for after the game was to just go hang out at the MOA for a bit before heading back downtown to pick up our luggage, so I didn't feel too bad ditching my family. And ever since then we have talked every single day.  9 hours apart and a country apart but we're just taking it day by day and trying to figure out how this all works.

The craziest part of this whole thing though? When we were at the stadium he had taken my phone and added himself as my friend on Facebook. Since it was his birthday that day he was getting a bunch of birthday posts on his wall. The next morning I was at Perkins for breakfast, after getting off of the train, and I finally had wifi again after 10+ hours. I was scrolling through Facebook when I saw a birthday message to Minnesota from my blog friend turned IRL friend Kate. Turns out that Minnesota is really good friends with Kate's husband Pete, and was even in their wedding party! How is it that the only two people I know in the Twin Cities know each other?! The only word I can find to describe all of this is crazy

So that was my June for the most part - minus my whirlwind trip to Minnesota (with a Wisconsin trip thrown in there too to cross something off my 29 Before 29 list) at the end of the month because that needs a post all in its own or this will be the longest post in history!

Summer Bucket List 2016...

I make no secret of the fact that I absolutely LOVE Summer. If it weren't for loving Christmas so much (and needing Christmas to be white) I would be fine with the seasons never changing. Winter is looong AF here so the countdown to Summer starts as soon as Fall rolls around (we only get about 1 month of Fall before Winter hits...). Summer just has my heart.

I kick myself all.the.time for not taking my education further and becoming an actual teacher. Having the entire Summer off sounds like heaven to me. One of my closest friends, Scooby, is an 8th grade teacher and I envy her so much throughout the Summer. Unfortunately closing the Centre for 2 months isn't an option so I guess I'll just have to continue to take as much vacation days throughout the Summer as I possibly can.

The past three Summers I have created Summer Bucket Lists for myself (2013, 2014, 2015) and each year I have only managed to cross off about half of the items on my list. This year I'm going to make it a priority to get things crossed off. I'll be updating throughout the Summer so make sure to check back to see my progress. I'll also be updating on Snapchat (chiglechic) and IG (krmathison13) so you can also follow along there (shameless plug). Wish me luck!

Something that I don't have in my Summer plans? A trip to Las Vegas. And that makes me a super sad panda. If I don't get there this year I will not be be a happy camper! I miss my happy place. Thankfully I have a lot of other fun activities planned so it should keep my mind off of my lack of Vegas plans. I leave for a week in Minneaopolis in just over a week and then leave for Texas at the end of the month so I can't complain too much!

Happy Humpday y'all!

Currently (June 2016)...

Happy July (and Summer!) y'all! It's so cliche to say but I cannot believe that July (and Summer) is already here. I swear it was just Christmas and it seemed like it would take forever for Summer to arrive and then I blinked and somehow it's here (and the year is halfway over - crazy!)

I've completely neglected this little space of mine for far too long and I am more than ready to come back to blogging on a fairly regular basis. I'll never be a full time blogger but I think there is a good balance that I can work towards. I have a lot to catch up on with reading and commenting so prepare for your inboxes to be flooded (sorry!).

I had good intentions of getting back to it in June and had a few drafts started, including my Summer Bucket List, but with the death of a close family friend on the first day of Summer blogging was just the last thing on my mind during that time. Then a whirlwind trip to Minneapolis (and Wisconsin - more on that in a different post!) followed shortly after that and June ended up just being a complete write off for blogging.

But now its the start of a new month, and a fresh start for this space of mine! And to kick off July I need to backtrack a little bit with my Currently post for June (you can find May's Currently post here).

Reading my way through my (huge) reading pile - finally! I just finished The Lake House by Kate Morton last week and am now working my way through Me Before You by Jojo Moyes (late to that party, I know). Both of these books I just picked up recently so I have a ton of books in my reading pile from last Summer still (eek!). I started and finished The Lake House in a couple of hours while on the train to Minneaopolis about 10 days ago. It took awhile for me to get into the book - a few chapters at least, but then I was hooked and I couldn't put it down. Definitely recommend it as a Summer read!  I'm still also working on my annual Harry Potter summer re-read! I started Me Before You while on the train as well and just haven't found time since then to get back into it - hopefully soon!

Listening to 'This Bar Aint Big Enough' by Sister C on Spotify at this very moment. I first discovered them as a Highway Find on The Highway on XM with their song 'Faint of Heart' (love it!) and now I can't get enough of them. I very rarely have anything but The Highway playing in Eleanor and I pretty much listen to the same 10 country songs on Spotify all day long. If you have some new song recommendations send them my way!

Celebrating Summer! With Winter taking up half of the year I am constantly counting down the days until Summer (and then as soon as Summer is over counting down until Christmas!) Summer also means my birthday  which I will be celebrating before I know it - still not sure how I feel about turning 29...

Watching The Office. Again, late to the party. I've been binge watching it on Netflix for a few weeks now and am currently close to the end of Season 5 - which I hear is when the show starts to go downhill a bit. I never thought I would like it but I actually laugh out loud a couple of times at least each episode. Otherwise the only thing I've been watching is baseball (no surprise there)

Drinking all the coffee I can get my hands on. I'm just sooo exhausted no matter how much sleep I get. I finally got my hands on more Caribou Blend K-Cups while in Target last week - so much better than the Van Houtte stuff I've had to drink lately. Caribou is one of the best reasons for all these Twin Cities trips - I think I actually love it more than Starbucks!

Waiting for my next trip to the Twin Cities. Heading that way again in 10 days for a girls weekend and then staying through the week - while also getting a mini vacation to Duluth, MN in there. I can't wait!

Loving Summer. I just can't say enough how much I love this season

Working long days the next two weeks to prepare for taking a full week off of work. I've been with the Centre for just over three years now and I have never taken off an entire week at one time (crazy, I know!). I'm slightly nervous aka I'm a complete control freak

Wearing all the comfy clothes because I haven't worked out in forever.  Ughhh. I lost all my motivation after my May Twin Cities trip and haven't been able to find it. I need to though because it's less than a month until I need to be in a bathing suit in Texas. I'm in a Beachbody challenge group that starts July 11th so that will hopefully kick my butt into getting back at it - though now I have to incorporate daily workouts into my next Twin Cities trip - wish me luck!

Anticipating finally being able to spill the beans on some life happenings! I am terrible at keeping secrets and I just can't wait until I don't have to hold things in anymore. Ughh!

Making a blogging schedule so that I don't completely fall off the face of the earth again!

Tomorrow I'll be posting my Summer Bucket List - I've got a lot of things to cross of the list in just two short months but I'm super excited to start working on them. Gahhhh I love Summer!
