Friday Favourites...

Happy Friday y'all! This is my last stretch of working straight Sundays and then next week is Thanksgiving (already!) and I have a four day weekend. That hasn't happened in mooonths and I am so looking forward to it. Now just to get through this weekend, survive Monday-Thursday, and then I will have so much free time I won't know what to do with myself! Hopefully keep up with blogging is included in all that free time...

I've rounded up some of my my favourite purchases/things I've been loving lately - enjoy!

I'm loving everything Halloween, obviously. It is my second favourite holiday after all. My heart did a little happy dance when I saw this Halloween display at Bath & Body Works.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I love this Blue Jays bandana that I got for Krickit at Homespun a couple of weekends ago. My mama got her two dogs them too - they all look so adorable. I've been searching high and low for but could never find one anywhere. I thought about just getting the fabric and making one myself with my handy dandy sewing machine but the fabric is very hard to find apparently and costs a fortune to get licensing for. I'm just glad she has one now!

Y'all. I'm obsessed with these Chex Mix Muddy Buddies. I usually make Puppy Chow around Christmas time but we don't have these bags of it here in Canada so I never realized just how addicting it was until I discovered these bags on a trip to the states. They're my weakness! I am all out now and have no immediate plans to head to the States (ughhh) so maybe I'll finally be able to kick the addiction? Haha

Target does it again. I couldn't resist these tops when I saw them on my last trip to Target. I mean, how could I?! I LOVE Mean Girls and Halloween is one of my favourite things ever. The best part is that I'm not even a fan of pumpkin spice! #targetmademedoit

I actually thing Target is my #1 addiction. I just can't help myself when I'm there! Krickit doesn't even play with her toys for the most part and yet every time they release new seasonal toys I HAVE to buy them for her. They're just so cute!

I definitely didn't need another infinity scarf but somehow it just magically appeared in my cart. It's weird how that happens... It's probably a good thing that I'm not able to go to MN for the next little while - definitely good for my budget since I have no willpower when it comes to Target

We also don't have Land O Lakes products here in Canada (side eye) so I usually stock up on butter for baking when I'm in the states (because it's sooo much cheaper). I saw this in Wal-Mart back in August and decided to give it a whirl. Y'all. It's SO good. I haven't been able to have it for almost three weeks because of doing the 21 Day Fix and everytime I open the fridge it taunts me

Not only am I loving that my sister is all moved into her brand spankin' new house BUT I am also loving that I was re-introduced to Alligator Pie while reading Graycie bedtime stories when I stayed overnight the other night. I completely forgot how much I love this classic book - we used it all the time when I was in College. Now I can't wait to get my hands on a copy for my centre!

Definitely a weird mixture of things I've been loving lately! Writing this also has me itching for a trip to Target so this may have been a terrible, no good, very bad idea....

Have a great weekend y'all!

Currently (September 2016)...

Reading my way through my reading pile. I skipped over some of the books that have been in there for a while in favour of some newer ones that I couldn't wait to read.  I started and finished Harry Potter & the Cursed Child within a few hours while riding the train to MN back in August - I loved it! There's a lot of mixed opinions on it but for me anything that brings HP back into my life is fine by me. I also finally finished Me Before You while on the train to MN (this is pretty much the only time I get for reading lately!). New additions to my reading pile are After You (picked it up in Target on my way home from MN after finally finishing the first one) and Big Little Lies by Liana Moriarty

Listening to my same ole' playlist on Spotify on repeat. I've recently added 7 Years by The Church Sisters (a Highway Find that I really liked), Kill a Word by Eric Church, and the Forever Country mash up  to the playlist (LOVE!)

Celebrating Graycie's birthday this weekend. Her party is at a local community centre that has bouncy castle rentals for birthday parties and she is so excited for her party. I'm excited for her but not so excited for the level of volume that I'm sure I'll be experiencing...

Watching baseball and The Office. And I've been keeping up with This Is Us with the CTV Go app

Drinking Shakeology, coffee, and water. I'm dying for a beer... only three more days and I'm done this round of the 21 Day Fix (hallelujah). After this I will be sticking with the work outs but not completely following the meal plan. I miss beer too much

Waiting for payday haha. I've been good with sticking to my budget but it doesn't leave me much leftover for 'fun' things (not that I really leave my house these days anyways)

Loving that my sister is all moved into her house! It's so nice and new and I can't wait to hang out there once all her furniture arrives and is set up. I stayed over on Monday night to watch the girls while Toni was away but she doesn't have a lot of her furniture yet - sleepovers will be so much better once all her furniture is set up

Working some long hours lately between both jobs. I just have so much on the go but I'm hoping to get it all knocked off the list by this weekend so I can start the first Monday of October with a clean slate and ease back on the crazy hours

Wearing some new clothes that I picked up at Target at the end of August. I needed some new fall pieces and its cool enough now that I can finally wear them (not sure how I feel about that yet...)

Anticipating Scooby visiting! It's been way too long since I've seen her BUT she's coming down this weekend to finally see Toni's new place. After this it's time for a KJK reunion in Yorkton - it's definitely overdue

Making plans for a trip to the Twin Cities in mid November for the girls birthday trip. I just wish I was also making plans for a trip to Vegas :( This is the first year since 2009 that I don't have a Vegas vacation planned!

Blog posts two days in a row - who am I?! AND I even have another scheduled for tomorrow. Don't get too used to it though. I'm aiming for about three days a week going forward (two for sure). I've got sooo much to catch up on!

Budgeting Is Hard (And Other Weekly Lessons)...

Y'all. It's been 25 days since I've made it to this space of mine. TWENTY-FIVE. I suck so hard at this blogging thing lately. I blame Summer and its insane busy-ness. But now it's officially Fall (and it's probably the only time I've ever looked forward to it and not cried when Summer officially ended...) and I have no more excuses. It's way past time to get back into it! I was so pumped when Mattie announced the Weekly Lessons link up back in August but so far I've only made it to the link up once (whooops) - buuuuut that all ends today - it's time to dive back in

Lessons Learned...

The Office will never get old
I know I said in my last Weekly Lessons post that HIMYM will never get old (and it won't!) but I've been back to loving The Office lately and its all I've been playing on Netflix. I'm supposed to be watching Parks and Rec (I'm on Season 2) but I haven't been able to sit down and fully concentrate on watching so I just put The Office on as background noise and then I don't feel like I'm missing anything

Budgeting is hard when you want all the things
Besides a few trips to Target that got a little out of control (how anyone can go into Target and just get what they absolutely need is beyond me) I've been really good at sticking to my budget. But y'all... I'm going insane not being able to purchase the things that I think I 'need' and I'm afraid that one of these days I'm going to go crazy and completely blow my budget. I mean, I absolutely NEED another pair of Hillberg and Berk sparkle ball earrings, right?! Someone please talk me down off of the ledge because I'm sooo close to hitting my goals!

The CTVGO app is a game changer
I don't get to watch much tv, aside from Netflix and when Blue Jays games are on. I was super bummed when I missed the first episode of 'This is Us' because it was so hyped up. Luckily, a friend of mine had missed it as well and asked on FB if there was anywhere she could watch it after the fact and I was introduced to the CTVGo app from a friends comment. I've been able to watch a couple episodes of The Voice, the first episode of the 3rd season of How to Get Away with Murder (even though I haven't watched Season 2 yet...), and even an episode of Hot in Cleveland (why I have no idea haha).  I'm so used to having to wait until seasons make it to Netflix (if they even do) that this has been soooo exciting!

Getting into a routine is hard when your normal routine is all out of whack
I've been doing the 21 Day Fix with a friend - which is great, I really needed it- BUT it's been really hard getting into the routine of it when one day I'm working out at 5 am and the next day it's 11:30 at night before I finally get a chance. I've worked a little extra at my part time job due to the owner getting married and going on her honeymoon and I've been working longer hours at my normal job trying to get things accomplished, which makes for some really messed up days for me and no normal schedule whatsoever. I kind of can't wait for October and a fresh new start and the beginnings of a routine again. Hallelujah!

I actually have posts scheduled for Thursday and Friday this week (who am I?!) and a list a mile long of post ideas - hopefully I stick with it this time!

Happy Humpday!

August Happenings...

Happy first day of September y'all! For once in my life I'm actually welcoming the start of this month instead of mourning the end of August like I normally would. I must be getting better at this adulting thing (says the girl who ate gummy worms for supper...).

August was another blink and you miss it month. I always look back at the pictures on my iPhone to try and remember what I did the previous month for this link up (one day I might be on the ball enough to have this as a draft all month and update as the month goes on. One day...) and there honestly weren't too many 'big' moments and yet the days just flew by

What's New With You

August Happenings

At the start of August I had time off of work because I was supposed to be in Texas. When our plans fell through just a couple of weeks before we were supposed to leave I was devastated. I've been dreaming of Tex-Mex, the Gristmill and Gruene Hall, and floating the river since I was last there two years ago so it was very disappointing that our plans didn't work out.

To get our minds off of not being in Texas Toni and I headed up to Yorkton for a night in the middle of that week off of work to go visit Scooby. I'm not exactly sure anymore how we got to that point but somewhere along the way we decided that we should road trip to Kansas City, Missouri that weekend to catch a couple games of the Royals vs Jays series. We hoped to convince Scooby to come along for the ride (and the adventure) with us but she choose adult responsibilities over joining in, Our trip to Yorkton was a lot shorter than planned due to needing to head back home to get ready to go to Kansas City but we were able to have a nice supper out, drink the delicious sangria that Scooby made that I haven't stopped thinking about for almost an entire month (I now expect that sangria every time I visit) and I FINALLY got to get some ice cream from the ah-mazing ice cream shop that Scooby always goes on about. Toni and I also managed to sneak in time to get our nails done while we there (while we waited for my SUV to get a tire patched so we could head home and then to KC) - I went with blue for the Jays - I just love that colour so much!

The drive down to Kansas City was pretty uneventful (other than worrying about running out of gas late at night when most of the service stations were closed). We made the mistake of booking a hotel for the night in advance and we finally made it to Omaha, NE at 4:00 am (3:00 am our time) where we had booked our hotel. We got a few hours sleep and then it was back on the road for another 3 hours to get to Kansas City and get checked into our hotel before the game started.

We couldn't check into our hotel right away so we found where it was and then headed to my happy place - Target. We got everything we needed there - Starbucks, alcohol, and snacks. There was a Chick-fil-A in the same parking lot as the Target so we decided to just grab that for lunch/supper since we were running out of time before the game. I've wanted to try it for sooo long because I always see how much people love it - and I am now a fan and can't wait to have it again!

We pounded beers in our hotel room while we tried to make ourselves not look like we'd only gotten 3 hours of sleep and then it was off to the game. We got to take our first ever Uber ride (I now see what all the hype is about - sooo convenient) though we didn't make it into the stadium until after the first inning because the line up at the gates was sooooo ridiculous.

We had some really good seats for the first game. Unfortunately the Jays didn't win but that was alright - I got to check visiting Kauffman Stadium off of my list and Toni got to see her first ever live MLB game (and watch Kevin Pillar run around the outfield).

It was a whirlwind trip - very exhausting, but completely worth it for the memories that were made. Like sleeping in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Fargo, ND. And Toni slicing her foot open on a bathroom stall at the stadium. And reading the Bro Code out loud in the car to pass the time (the only reading material I had haha). All things we aren't likely to forget for a long time. It might not have been the trip we had been planning on but at least we made the most of our days off and we got to get in some bird watching, even if it wasn't at Minute Maid Park.

In the middle of the month a very close family friend had her 50th birthday party down in the valley and it was a blast - the one man band she had hired was sooo good (I was skeptical at first but he won me over). He even let my 'nephew' go up and play a few songs on the guitar - that was pretty special. I've realized lately though that I just can't hang like I used to - my parents (and 9 year old niece) outlasted me by at least 3 hours. I'm so ashamed

Snapchat filters on dogs is the best. End of story

I met up with my friend Jess, a Beaver Cove town council member, for coffee one afternoon and she gave me my belated birthday present - she knows me so well! HP, Kate Spade, and Sour Patch Kids are pretty much my favourite things in all the land. She did good. Now I need to get colouring so I can start mailing out some awesome snail mail!

On the 21st of August I took the train down to see MN. Saying goodbye to Krickit was so hard - there may have been a few tears when she tried to follow me to my SUV. She's been camping with my parents almost all summer and I just feel like the worst puppy mama in the world when I leave her behind. Thankfully my brother had given me the new HP book to read on the train so it was a good distraction - I started and finished it within 2 hours. I just couldn't put it down!

I didn't actually spend much time in the Twin Cities this trip. Instead we headed up north to MN's aunt and uncle's cabin, near Brainerd. It was such a peaceful mini vacation - nothing but relaxing on the boat and drinking beers - it was perfect. I got to try some new beers (loved them!) and work on my summer tan (better late than never). I just love lake life

Now in just a couple of days I'm heading back to MN to take in my first ever Minnesota State Fair - I can't wait!

(Side note: I was having mega formatting issues (lame) so now my post is showing as being published on the 2nd of September. Sometimes I hate technology...)
