August Happenings...

Happy first day of September y'all! For once in my life I'm actually welcoming the start of this month instead of mourning the end of August like I normally would. I must be getting better at this adulting thing (says the girl who ate gummy worms for supper...).

August was another blink and you miss it month. I always look back at the pictures on my iPhone to try and remember what I did the previous month for this link up (one day I might be on the ball enough to have this as a draft all month and update as the month goes on. One day...) and there honestly weren't too many 'big' moments and yet the days just flew by

What's New With You

August Happenings

At the start of August I had time off of work because I was supposed to be in Texas. When our plans fell through just a couple of weeks before we were supposed to leave I was devastated. I've been dreaming of Tex-Mex, the Gristmill and Gruene Hall, and floating the river since I was last there two years ago so it was very disappointing that our plans didn't work out.

To get our minds off of not being in Texas Toni and I headed up to Yorkton for a night in the middle of that week off of work to go visit Scooby. I'm not exactly sure anymore how we got to that point but somewhere along the way we decided that we should road trip to Kansas City, Missouri that weekend to catch a couple games of the Royals vs Jays series. We hoped to convince Scooby to come along for the ride (and the adventure) with us but she choose adult responsibilities over joining in, Our trip to Yorkton was a lot shorter than planned due to needing to head back home to get ready to go to Kansas City but we were able to have a nice supper out, drink the delicious sangria that Scooby made that I haven't stopped thinking about for almost an entire month (I now expect that sangria every time I visit) and I FINALLY got to get some ice cream from the ah-mazing ice cream shop that Scooby always goes on about. Toni and I also managed to sneak in time to get our nails done while we there (while we waited for my SUV to get a tire patched so we could head home and then to KC) - I went with blue for the Jays - I just love that colour so much!

The drive down to Kansas City was pretty uneventful (other than worrying about running out of gas late at night when most of the service stations were closed). We made the mistake of booking a hotel for the night in advance and we finally made it to Omaha, NE at 4:00 am (3:00 am our time) where we had booked our hotel. We got a few hours sleep and then it was back on the road for another 3 hours to get to Kansas City and get checked into our hotel before the game started.

We couldn't check into our hotel right away so we found where it was and then headed to my happy place - Target. We got everything we needed there - Starbucks, alcohol, and snacks. There was a Chick-fil-A in the same parking lot as the Target so we decided to just grab that for lunch/supper since we were running out of time before the game. I've wanted to try it for sooo long because I always see how much people love it - and I am now a fan and can't wait to have it again!

We pounded beers in our hotel room while we tried to make ourselves not look like we'd only gotten 3 hours of sleep and then it was off to the game. We got to take our first ever Uber ride (I now see what all the hype is about - sooo convenient) though we didn't make it into the stadium until after the first inning because the line up at the gates was sooooo ridiculous.

We had some really good seats for the first game. Unfortunately the Jays didn't win but that was alright - I got to check visiting Kauffman Stadium off of my list and Toni got to see her first ever live MLB game (and watch Kevin Pillar run around the outfield).

It was a whirlwind trip - very exhausting, but completely worth it for the memories that were made. Like sleeping in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Fargo, ND. And Toni slicing her foot open on a bathroom stall at the stadium. And reading the Bro Code out loud in the car to pass the time (the only reading material I had haha). All things we aren't likely to forget for a long time. It might not have been the trip we had been planning on but at least we made the most of our days off and we got to get in some bird watching, even if it wasn't at Minute Maid Park.

In the middle of the month a very close family friend had her 50th birthday party down in the valley and it was a blast - the one man band she had hired was sooo good (I was skeptical at first but he won me over). He even let my 'nephew' go up and play a few songs on the guitar - that was pretty special. I've realized lately though that I just can't hang like I used to - my parents (and 9 year old niece) outlasted me by at least 3 hours. I'm so ashamed

Snapchat filters on dogs is the best. End of story

I met up with my friend Jess, a Beaver Cove town council member, for coffee one afternoon and she gave me my belated birthday present - she knows me so well! HP, Kate Spade, and Sour Patch Kids are pretty much my favourite things in all the land. She did good. Now I need to get colouring so I can start mailing out some awesome snail mail!

On the 21st of August I took the train down to see MN. Saying goodbye to Krickit was so hard - there may have been a few tears when she tried to follow me to my SUV. She's been camping with my parents almost all summer and I just feel like the worst puppy mama in the world when I leave her behind. Thankfully my brother had given me the new HP book to read on the train so it was a good distraction - I started and finished it within 2 hours. I just couldn't put it down!

I didn't actually spend much time in the Twin Cities this trip. Instead we headed up north to MN's aunt and uncle's cabin, near Brainerd. It was such a peaceful mini vacation - nothing but relaxing on the boat and drinking beers - it was perfect. I got to try some new beers (loved them!) and work on my summer tan (better late than never). I just love lake life

Now in just a couple of days I'm heading back to MN to take in my first ever Minnesota State Fair - I can't wait!

(Side note: I was having mega formatting issues (lame) so now my post is showing as being published on the 2nd of September. Sometimes I hate technology...)

  1. I'm about to start reading Harry Potter (I'm next in line waiting on Overdrive!) so I'm happy to hear you liked it! Looks like you had an exciting and fun month! Happy September and thanks for linking up :)

  2. I could hardly put down the new HP book, either. I did miss reading an actual novel instead of a screenplay - I wish that JK Rowling would write an actual book version of it. Glad you could try Chick-Fil-A! They are the only fast food place that I really like anymore, except for an occasional craving for Taco Bell.
