What I'm Loving . . .

i'm loving . . . That it is FINALLY Halloween! My 2nd favourite Holiday (next to Christmas, obviously).  I went to the Queen City on the weekend for a Rider Game and we ended up going out to the bar - there were so many good costumes! I just love seeing how creative some people get - and the kiddos are always ADORABLE!
i'm loving . . . My new Jillian Michaels DVD that arrived this week! I wanted to switch up my workout after I finished 30 days of The Shred so I ordered Ripped in 30.   My dad saw the DVD sitting on the counter in their kitchen and said 'That Jillian is a bitch. Good luck with those." Thanks Dad . . .
i'm loving . . . this blog swap from Kassie! So excited to pick out some goodies for my partner! I LOVE gift giving!
i'm loving . . . that my drive in to work this morning was nice and clear. For the last two days the fog has been so heavy that I couldn't drive more than 80 kms (turning my 45 minute drive into at least an hour drive... ugh). It was pretty scary last night - not able to see the lines on the highway or the vehicles in front of you. I seriously felt like I was in a horror movie
i'm loving . . . this Halloween snack mix I whipped up last night. (source). I made this last year as Halloween gifts for some friends - so delicious! My family ate half the mix last night before I could even divide it up into bags

i'm loving . . . these cute pumpkin treats I made for my nieces and 'nephew's and cousins kiddos. (source. What did people do before Pinterest?!)

Tomorrow on the blog: Throwback Thursday from the Ghosts of Halloweens Past! I can't wait to dig up some old pictures from Halloween!

Happy Hump Day!

I Wore What?!...

Today I am linking up with Aly from Analyze This for 'I Wore What?!'

I got my 1st camera when I was 10 years old and thought I needed to take pictures of EVERYTHING- thus, there is no shortage of pictures from that age and up

Let's just say it was hard to narrow it down to only 5
'I Wore What?!' pictures- fashionista I was not

Lets take a walk down memory lane...

1. Why the eff am I only wearing pantyhose on one leg?!
How does that even work???
2. I wish my sister still had those glasses . . .
so I could tease her mercilessly
3. Did I actually leave my house with a bathing suit showing under a baby tee?
I'm so glad I lived in such a large city where no one would have known me . . .
Oh wait . . . Eff my life . . .
(Side note: those are definitely Backstreet Boys posters on my wall and I'm pretty
sure you can see Dream Phone and The Babysitters Club games
on the shelf in our closet. I miss the 90's . . .)
Here I am at 4 years old- with two older cousins to look
up to and to get fashion advice from. . .
I wish I still had that kitten shirt . . .
It would go so great with my hot pink bicycle shorts that
 I wear for 80's dress up nights. . .
Also, I knew there were reasons I have panic attacks
when I even think about cutting my bangs
1.What was with the belly baring shirts?!
2. Were the Looney Tunes really that popular?
3. How short was that effin skirt???
4. AND SERIOUSLY what is going on with those BANGS!!

And finally . . .
I'd like to be able to say that this was during my college years buuuuut it's more like 6 months old (in my defense, I was only 24 at the time). Too many rounds of beer pong before the bar and all of a sudden it was Halloween in the middle of March. I also snuck that bottle of Cherry Whiskey into the bar in my purse and then played bartender for the rest of the night . . .
Here's to hoping that as the years go by there are fewer and fewer of
these types of pictures to look back on
Wait, where's the fun in that?

What I'm Loving...

i'm loving... all of the shows I have set to record for tonight. Wednesday is a good night for TV again! I have been watching Nashville for the last two weeks and over the weekend I got caught up on the first two episodes of Chicago Fire and Arrow. Hopefully my work committments for tonight will be done early enough that I'll be able to sit back, relax, and watch them
i'm loving... that all of the political talk will soon be disappearing from my timeline and newsfeed and from the blog-o-sphere (I'm Canadian dammit, all of it goes waaaay over my head)
i'm loving... the extra energy I have since I have re-started the Shred and am getting up earlier every morning. My body aint loving it so much right now, but it can only get better right?
i'm loving... that after tonight I won't have to think about AGM stuff for a whole effing year (hallelujah!)
i'm loving... that it is one week away from my favourite holiday!
i'm loving... that I get my lashes filled tomorrow night... I haven't been able to wear my contacts at all lately because I feel like my lashes are so bare
What are you loving?

Happy Hump Day!

Working on my fitness...

I started Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred (for the billionth time) on the weekend and my body is now protesting every move I make

I feel like all my muscles are being lit on fire with each step I take and it doesn't help that to get to my office at work I have to go up a flight of stairs and to get to the staff washroom I have to go down two flights of stairs (I drink a shit ton of water everyday so this is NOT fun!)

Getting up at 5 am is getting easier every day (really only an hour early than I have to be up anyways) and I feel like I get so much accomplished by getting up earlier and I just keep reminding myself 'no pain no gain' when it comes to getting in shape

I ordered Jillian's 'Ripped in 30' to do when I am done the Shred, just to mix it up a little bit. I'm even contemplating trying out Weight Watchers but I'm still on the fence - I'm not sure if I have the dedication to keep track of  every.single.thing.I.eat. It sounds like a loooot of work

For now I am doing the Shred each morning and trying to eat healthier. I've been browsing Pinterest for healthy snack and meal ideas (it certainly ain't cheap to eat healthy!)

I have exactly 54 days until I will be on a beach in Mexico to watch my childhood friend (and college roommate) get married and I want to be able to enjoy the experience and not be worried about what I look like in my bathing suit and wonder what other people are thinking about me. I just want to be able to relax!

I've been contemplating posting a 'before' photo but I'm just not sure if I am brave enough...yet

Today I am linking up with The Vintage Apple and Blonde...Undercover Blonde for

Eff, Marry, Kill

Oliver Queen
He can take down 50 men by himself
work a bow and arrow
I'd ride off into the sunset with him and never look back
Deacon Clayborne
He's messing around on Rayna (aka Connie Britton - LOVED her since
Friday Night Lights) and that just pisses me off

Let's Talk Tattoos...

Today I am linking up with Melanie for 'Lets Talk Tattoos Tuesday'
I have eight tattoos... People always wonder how I can run an early learning centre and be 'covered in tattoos'. When I am dressed for work you can maybe see one or two tattoos - the only time you would be able to see more is in the Summer months when I dress more casually to battle the heat
Lets get started:
My very 1st tattoo - Done in Las Vegas at Vince Neil Ink when I was 21. BAD picture but it is very hard to take a photo of your own back! (ha). My cousin and I got our tattoos at the same time and they are very similar. They are both of our last name and mine also includes five stars around the M of my last name (1 for each member of my immediate family)

My 2nd tattoo - also done in Las Vegas at Vince Neil Ink. It is a memorial tattoo for my Grandpa Ken who passed away when I was 16. 'Chigle' is my nickname that my Grandpa Ken ALWAYS called me - it means 'Cheeky' (I'm a bit of a smartass). My Grandma was in Vegas too (we were there for my cousins wedding) and she had known that I was going to get this tattoo. She brought along a card that my Grandpa had given her for an anniversary that had his name (Ken) signed. I LOVE my Grandpa's handwriting so it was definitely an easy decision to have his name added to the design
My 3rd tattto is also my largest one. This was done in Brandon, MB at Warlock's. Just a few weeks ago at my niece's birthday party my friends sister asked me to hold still so she could read my tattoo. My response - 'Good luck, its in Latin'. She looked at me like I was crazy to tattoo a language that no one knows. However, there is a reason for it. The top flower is an Alberta Wild Rose and the botton flower is a Saskatchewan Prairie Lily. These are the official flowers of the two provinces (my two homes). The words in latin are the mottos for the two provinces - which are in LATIN. I know what they translate into even if no one else does
My 4th tattoo was also done in Las Vegas. It is a memorial tattoo for my Grandma Dee who passed away when I was 15. Her name is Delta but she was always known as Dee. The writing underneath the D says 'Love, me'. At her funeral we played the song 'Love, Me' as the family walked out of the church. Everyone always asks me if this one hurt (it didnt, but I don't think any of my tattoos were painful)
My 5th tattoo was also done in Brandon, MB at Warlocks. It's a very small tattoo and I LOVE the placement. The feathers represent my Metis heritage. It is so inconspicious that it took at least 6 months before my hairdresser even noticed it was there
My 6th tattoo - also done in Las Vegas
My 7th tattoo was also done in Vegas. (It's a BAD picture but one of the only ones I could find that showed the placement of it the best). This is my 'sister' tattoo (my sister and I got this tattoo together - hers is on her shoulder). It says 'We do not remember the days, We remember the momemts'

My latest (but not last) tattoo is a memorial tattoo for my Grandpa Angie who passed away in April. The story behind the number 13 is a HUGE post in itself (maybe I'll get to it someday). The writing underneath is his signature (he also had beatiful handwriting and journaled almost everyday when I was younger).  This tattoo is on my right forearm and matches up in size and placement with the tattoo for my Grandpa Ken on my left forearm

So thats its... for now. I already have plans for at least two more....

Yet another busy weekend has come and gone...

Friday night I went out with two friends for supper and drinks at a pub in 'the city'. I had some much needed Vodka Cranberries (my latest 'vice'). It was nice to catch up - we try to do this at least once every two weeks.

I spent the night at one of the girls' house since we had to be at a work conference early in the morning (booo). Thank effin god there was a Tim Hortons right beside the hotel the conference was being held at - I don't think I could've handled the day without my morning cup of coffee. The conference wasn't as bad as most conferences are- I didn't fall asleep (though one girl did) She's lucky she wasn't one of MY employees - She would've gotten an ass kicking for sure.

Luckily the conference ended an hour and a half early so I grabbed an Ice Capp. from Tim Hortons, some donuts for the fam (including football shaped Rider ones) and hit the road for home sooo thankful that I wouldn't miss as much as the Rider game as I had anticipated. I ended up only missing the first quarter of the game... but unfortunately, we lost :(. You can't win them all I guess.

I had a maaaajor headache later on in the day and ended up falling asleep at 6:30 that night - so of course I was wide awake at 2:30 in the morning (who does that?!). I lazed around most of the day on Sunday- still trying to fight off my headache. I had to draaag myself out of bed to head to 'Dodge' where the bro and sis in law were hosting Sunday Supper at their house (delicious!).

Toni - minus the girls :( -  was there for supper too and after supper decided to run to her house and get her 'Faerie Cards'. (Remember a few weeks ago where she attended a trade show in 'the city' and I watched the girls for awhile? During this tradeshow she had her faerie and angel cards read by an angel card reader and she ended up buying a pack of 'faerie cards'. )

I didn't have a specific question to ask the 'Faeries' so Toni just told the Faerieis to tell me what they wanted me to know. I can't remember what three cards were pulled but I do know that I liked what they were telling me. Bascially, the 'Faeries' validated my decision to start saving up and move to NYC - so I'm officialy a 'Believer'! Anything that is going to approve of my future plans is OK by me.  (My decision to move to NYC will HOPEFULLY be the highlight of a future blog post - stay tuned :) )

I was feeling MUCH better by the time we left 'Dodge' and since it was such a nice night I decided to take Bear for a walk (for the middle of October in SE SK it was GORGEOUS!) I was wearing a light Lululemon hoodie and was sweating by the time we finished our 50 minute walk - halfway through the walk Bear was panting and yawning- the nice weather must've gotten to her too.

Hopefully the weather will hold up this week too - I'm not ready for snow quite yet!

i'm loving... that the new show, Nashville, starts tonight. I hope Connie Britton is as good as she was on Friday Night Lights

i'm loving... making some extra $ to pay off my trip by selling a billion unused items from my closet
i'm loving... that I just ordered Season 7 of HIMYM on Amazon... can't wait til it gets here... best.show.ever.
i'm loving... that this is a short work week and that today is Wednesday, even though it only feels like Tuesday
i'm loving... that Vampire Diaries returns tomorrow night! I have been waiting MONTHS for it

Happy Hump Day!

October 9, 2012

On Friday I went to get a much needed and long overdue haircut on my lunch break. My hairdresser LOVES big hair and always goes a little overboard with the backcombing so I always look a little out of character after leaving the Salon.
I had fifteen minutes left to kill on my break so I stopped at the liquor store to grab some drinks for the long weekend. While I was waiting in line to pay a lady I know from my hometown lined up behind me. When it was my turn to pay I got ID. I NEVER get ID so I figured it was probably because of the hair. I had never dealt with the lady working the til before so I was a little surprised when she she said:
"Can I see some ID? Not that I probably need it I think I see you in here all the time"
SERIOUSLY?! She did not just say that! I WAS MORTIFIED! NO, I do NOT go in ALL THE TIME.
To make matters worse, I was paying with a mother effin gift card. Nothing says your a regular somewhere like paying with a gift card.
I can only imagine what the lady behind me was thinking in her head. I prayed for the ground to open and swallow me up.
I hightailed it out of there as fast as I could without acknowledging her once... and then I sat in my vehicle and drank everything I had just bought
Just kidding...maybe

In the spirit of Thanksgiving I want to show what I am thankful for
(in no particular order)
Beer Pong
Victoria's Secret
How I Met Your Mother
Taylor Kitsch
Okay, so there are obviously more things I am thankful for but I am not the mushy and sappy type of person, so let's keep it light, okay?
Today I am thankful that I got to spend Thanksgiving with the ones I love the most (while also playing beer pong) and that the Riders pulled off another win!
What are you Thankful for?
Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving!

October 4, 2012

(Found this old pic of yours truly from waaay back in the day)
I LOVE holidays. If you have checked out my old blog, Some Days U Gotta Dance... you will have seen the many, many pictures and posts about the Holidays. I can't help it, I've just always been this way.
I have been counting down the days til Christmas since January 1st aaand I have been patiently awaiting the day that I could start decorating for the Halloween season.
Since I didn't get my Fall/Halloween decorating done on the weekend (like I was supposed to before life got in the way) I am committing to getting it done this Thanksgiving weekend.
Hopefully by next week I'll be able to post some pics (here's to hoping Beer Pong and Board Games don't get in the way this weekend!)
Happy  (thirsty) Thursday!

What's In A Name...

I'm about to drop a bombshell on you
Brace yourself for this
Okay, here goes....
My name is NOT just K...
(I know, shocker!)
My name is, in fact, Kayla
Not an uncommon name, just not a hugely popular name
It's easy to pronounce and easy to spell
Should be simple, right?
While on Holidays this summer in New York and Pennsylvania I made many, many pit stops at Starbucks
I had to get my Starbucks fix in since the nearest one to my small town is an hour and a half away (and across the American border)
Now, I don't stutter or have any kind of speech impediment
I may be a fast talker but saying 'KAYLA' out loud should come off exactly how it sounds
Each Starbucks I went to had a different variation on my name:
and my favourite, from the Starbucks in Times Square
The Barista who made my coffee couldn't even pronounce it
After tring to pronounce it a few times he finally gave up and just yelled out my coffee order
Thanks, Starbucks
So imagine my surprise when visiting a Starbucks in Hershey, Pennsylvania to find THIS on my cup

Finally! I was beginning to think I was going to have to change my name for when I make the big move to the city
I don't want my coffee order being snatched from me because I don't recognize the name they are calling for me
Anyone else have this problem?!

Funny Girls

My beautiful nieces both celebrated birthdays in September
Graycie @ 2 years old
We make her say 'Bit' at the end of some sentences
As in
"Give me my money, Bit"
(you all know what that sounds like coming from a 2 year old)
Sooo effin cute
Rae @ 6 years old
The other night while watching X Factor I asked Rae if she was
going to be famous one day
When she replied yes I asked her what she would be famous for
Her answer:
"For hotness"
Lord help us
